HPL is one of the commonly used finishing materials for furniture and interior surfaces, and is suitable as a surface covering for cabinets, tables, kitchen utensils, interiors, etc. It is usually particleboard for furniture and indoor applications. The core of an HPL is made up of several layers of kraft paper.
The visible layer is a piece of melamine impregnated decorative paper in a solid or printed design with a protective wear layer on top that can carry metal or other inclusions to enhance the design.
The HPL is laminated to the panel using a variety of adhesives. Particleboard, MDF, hardboard or even plywood are preferred substrates because they provide a stable, durable, consistent and economical basis.
